The eternal connection between the Jewish Nation and the Land of Israel goes back to the dawn of creation. Indeed, Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki (Rashi), one of Judaism's greatest sages, explains that the Bible begins with the story of creation for the sole purpose of showing the world that only the Creator of the universe has the authority to give the Land of Israel to the Jewish people as an eternal heritage.

Throughout the ages, from the time of our forefather Abraham, through the days of Joshua, when the Jewish nation entered Israel for the first time, through the glorious reign of King David, the First and Second Temple periods and even throughout the latest exile of the past 2000 years, there has always been a Jewish presence in the Land of Israel.

75 years ago, the world witnessed a modern-day miracle, with the return of the Jewish sovereignty to the Land of Israel. Against all odds, the fledgling Jewish nation with limited military abilities defeated seven well-armed Arab countries sworn to drive the Jews into the sea. With the establishment of the State of Israel, biblical prophesy has been fulfilled with the return of the people of Israel to its ancient homeland.

Since 1948, the people of Israel have not only made the desert bloom - they have experienced remarkable, awe-inspiring success in all areas, truly becoming a blessing and light unto the nations.

However, this unbelievable success has not come without a price. Since its independence, Israel's enemies have relentlessly attempted to drive Israel into the sea. Major wars, rocket attacks from the north and south, suicide bombings, shootings, stabbings, car-rammings and more has cost tens of thousands of Israeli lives.

Israel is so fortunate to have one of the finest armed forces in the world, able to successfully protect and defend the people of Israel. True to His ancient promise to Abraham, the IDF has become the Creator's tool to keep the Jewish people safe in their eternal homeland.

All of us can be Defenders of Israel, by supporting the Jewish people's eternal right to the Land, by encouraging and strengthening the IDF's absolute right to defend every inch of the country, and by praying to the Creator for the safety and success of the People, Country and Land of Israel.

As a Defender of Israel, in addition to receiving your gifts, your name will be added to the Defender of Israel Honor Scroll that will be presented to Israeli officials. A prayer will be recited on your behalf at the Western Wall in honor of the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces.
